Bass Guitar I was fortunate to be a teenager in the mid-to-late sixties, a true golden age of American popular music. It was possible to hear such artists as Slim Harpo, Ramsey Lewis, The Who, Frank Sinatra, and The Lovin' Spoonful on AM radio during the morning carpool to reform school. I was also lucky to come of age in the DC area, where there was a lively roots music scene with a strong blues bias (Chevy Chase, MD "Home of the Blues"). Great guitarists abounded - Roy Buchanan, Roy Clark, Danny Gatton and their talented students - so it made sense to be a bass player. I was inspired by a trio of singing bassists: Paul McCartney, Chris Hillman and Rick Danko. I have always aspired to be a band member rather than a single voice, which means being a good listener and collaborator. I am extremely happy to be involved in the FPR band, their beautiful vocal harmonies and classic material. |
